Córdova (France A.) Recreational Sports Center (CREC)
APOLLO 11 50TH ANNIVERSARY TOUR
This multimillion-dollar sports center honors Purdue’s first woman President (2007-12), France A. Córdova (B.A., English, 1969; Ph.D., Physics, 1979), who earned the NASA Distinguished Service Medal in 1996. Spanning 355,000 sq. ft., the center features rock climbing, swimming pools, and 2 tracks where students and members can run all the orbits they want.
The original Recreational Sports Center was the first sports facility in the nation built strictly for intramural sports. The new facility, opened in fall 2012, is filled with state-of-the-art upgrades and many new opportunities to stay fit.
There's a climbing wall, the largest synthetic turf field in the world, a demonstration kitchen, juice bar, physical therapy clinic, indoor jogging track, competition pool as well as leisure pool with a vortex slide and island hot tub, weightlifting equipment, cardio machines, a sauna and more.
